Over the past decade or longer schools in the United States of America have been tasked to produce successful students. In 2002, then-President George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) act, yet another phase of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) (Cook, 2011). This has done little if anything to prepare students for college or life in general as the standardized tests used for assessing knowledge are actually a ranking method for evaluating aptitude rather than achievement and derived from United States Army Alpha Test, which was used to determine army recruits qualified for officer training (Cook, 2011). The success of schools, school districts, educators, and the students themselves has been measured by these standardized tests and higher ranking in overall scores equates to more funding for schools and higher pay for educators. What is left out of this equation is the students, how they are prepared for their future, and how successful they actually are or perceive themselves to be. Obviously, with newer and newer technologies, people have becomes lazy over time. If one is near death, it doesn’t mean that they are equal to one who is completely fine. There are countless examples for a quote such as this. Students may only meet the minimal requirements for a project just for it to be barely enough to pass. Having more work done allows for the overall grade to exceed what would have been written at the minimal requirements. I remember when I was in sixth grade, my teacher assigned the class a two hundred word summary of what we learned about during history time. To us this seemed like a lot, but we managed to have it completed by the due date. Arhin lists the even worse Presidents and states that it could not completely have been their faults as â€Å"other factors came into play†. The many examples used in the article are former Presidents that have done remarkably inferior work that President Mills. This article is written in a demeaning tone towards the Presidents, and persuades the audience with facts. With these examples, I have finally made a decision to agree with this week’s latin quote. It is not great to be the worst. To be slightly better than that of the worst is still seen as poor. It is great to be the best. But if you are not the best nor worst you are in the middle, and that is a confusing place to be.

When Susan Alexander, Kanes second wife, wanted to be a singer, Kane got her a teacher, and began from there, to create a singer. He built an Opera house and made her into a glamourous star. Throughout the film, Kane used his paper, the Enquirer to manipulate the minds of the public into believing whatever Kane wrote. Kane also used his paper to show the public how politicians Gettys were corrupt and dishonest. Whether the facts published in the Enquirer were true or not, to Kane was irrelevent. Kane was only interested in promoting himself by not only bad-mouthing people, but by writing articles that had no purpose to them other than to amuse himself. Throughout the movie, we see that rosebud is played up to have some major significance in Kanes life. Rosebud is definitely a clever prop that Welles uses to take the film on its journey. By piecing together his childhood and older years into this clever array of first hand accounts of experiences people have had with him, we are given an insiders view of a not so known man. The rosebud is representative of a life unfulfilled. The burning sled represents that of a youth who lacked the playfulness and love of a father and mother. I think that the rosebud was more of a way to show how Kane suffered from his childhood, and connect it to his inability to be a happy man. Citizen Kane allows people to see what it is like when someone has everything materiel, but cant seem to find happiness. I feel that this film is significant in saying that power and wealth cannot accumulate the things that which we need to survive. Kane never was truly loved, and could not love. He never knew any of these things because he was always given things to make him happy or to buy his love. Kane could never buy the one thing that he tried so hard to achieve, happiness.
